Cricket fans have often questioned which players from the past would have made news and broke the bank in the IPL auctions. While the answer will always be intriguing, an Indian cricket legend has revealed how much he would have bid at the IPL mega-auction.

Ravi Shastri, India's former all-rounder and the captain made 3830 runs in 80 Tests and took 151 wickets throughout his 11-year career. He took 129 wickets and scored 3108 runs in ODIs and was a member of India's World Cup-winning squad in 1983.

So, when Shastri was asked how big of a bid he would have gotten in a hypothetical IPL auction during an interview with ESPNCricinfo, the former India head coach responded without hesitation, that he would comfortably find his name in the INR 15-crore bracket and would also captain the side he was picked in.

“Comfortably in the 15-crore bracket. Comfortably! And captain of the side. No question. It's a no-brainer,” he said in an interview with ESPNCricinfo

Shastri's price tag would have put him in the IPL record books. Star all-rounder Yuvraj Singh was the most expensive Indian player at an IPL auction, having been signed by Delhi (Daredevils) for INR 16 crores in 2015.

Ishan Kishan comes in second, having sold for INR 15.25 crore at the mega-auction last month. He became a member of the Mumbai Indians.

Overall, Chris Morris was the most expensive player ever purchased at an IPL auction, costing Rajasthan Royals INR 16.25 crores in IPL 2021 auction, followed by Pat Cummins, who cost Kolkata Knight Riders INR 15.5 crores in IPL 2020.
