Former Australia cricketer Matthew Hayden on Saturday (March 26) came under the scanner for his comments on Umesh Yadav in the IPL 2022 opener between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

Umesh bowled brilliantly with the new ball and removed both the CSK openers, Ruturaj Gaikwad (0) and Devon Conway (3), cheaply.

After Conway’s dismissal, Hayden was heard saying on-air, "Someone else’s trash has become KKR’s treasure," referring to Umesh, who was signed by KKR at his base price of INR 2 crore at the mega auction last month.

Hayden’s comment didn’t go down well with the fans and they slammed the ex-Australia opener for using harsh words for Umesh Yadav, who played for DC last season and RCB in 2018, 2019, and 2020.

Here’s how fans reacted to Matthew Hayden's comment:

Coming to the match, KKR opened their IPL 2022 campaign in an impressive fashion as they defeated CSK by six wickets in the tournament opener.

Asked to bat first, the defending champions posted 131/5 in 20 overs on the back of former skipper MS Dhoni’s unbeaten 50 off 38 balls.

In reply, Knight Riders rode on opener Ajinkya Rahane’s 34-ball 44 and handy contributions from Sam Billings (25), Nitish Rana (21), and Shreyas Iyer (20*) to overhaul the target with 9 balls to spare.
