In what is huge breaking news, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) four-time IPL winning captain MS Dhoni has decided to pass on the leadership baton to Ravindra Jadeja for the upcoming IPL 2022 season.

MS Dhoni was the most expensive player bought in the inaugural IPL auction in 2008 and since then has captained Chennai Super Kings in all the seasons the yellow brigade has played for excluding the 2016 and 2017 seasons when the CSK team was suspended.

CSK won their first IPL title in 2010 and then defended it by winning the IPL 2011 becoming the first team to win back-to-back IPL titles. Then when the MS Dhoni-led side returned to the IPL fold after two years of suspension, they won the tournament in 2018 as well.

Chennai had made it into the playoffs of all the seasons they had participated in until the IPL 2020 when they endured their worst season when they finished 7th winning only 6 matches out of 14 and failing to qualify for the playoffs.

However, the CSK roared back in style as they went on to win the IPL 2021 edition of the tournament, beating a resurgent KKR in the finals in Dubai.

MS Dhoni was expected to lead the team in the IPL 2022 as well, but the franchise put out an official statement on Thursday, March 24, 2022, that he has decided to pass on the captaincy baton to all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja.

Jadeja was retained by the CSK franchise along with Dhoni, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Moeen Ali for the IPL 2022 and has been with the franchise since the 2012 edition of the tournament. He will be only the third cricketer to captain the Chennai Super Kings, with Suresh Raina being the other player after MS Dhoni to hold the reins of the side.

The IPL 2022 begins on March 26 with CSK taking on KKR in Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
