Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah revealed that the brand value of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has reached new heights ahead of the IPL 2022 edition, as he confirmed that revenue from sponsorships this season is set to cross the INR 1000 crore mark.

For the first time in IPL history, the Purple Cap and Orange Cap will also be sponsored. The BCCI, in fact, has already sold the 9 sponsorship slots for the season.

Shah confirmed that for the first time in IPL history the revenue from sponsors will go past the INR 1,000 crores mark, which is the first time BCCI will earn such an amount of money from just sponsorships.

This clearly shows the value of IPL as a brand. We are absolutely delighted with these new sponsorship deals. This year we have clocked the highest ever sponsorship revenues. For the record for the 1st time we will be crossing the 1000 cr revenue mark from IPL Sponsorships for a single season “, Shah told Inside Sport.

With the BCCI media rights tender also set to be rolled out, industry experts suggest that the BCCI might be set to attract a consolidated value of over Rs. 45000 crore.

Earlier, while speaking to the Times of India, Shah had said that such an influx of money is good for the game in India while also assuring that the earnings ultimately go towards the upliftment of Indian cricket.

"Doing our best to acquire the justified value that a brand like IPL warrants is definitely on top of my mind. At the same time, we will also maintain complete transparency and that is one of the reasons why the media rights will be awarded through an e-auction. You can gauge the popularity of the league and the confidence of the investors from the interest it generated and the valuation that the two teams attracted,” he had said.

The IPL 2022 begins from March 26 onwards.
