Bangladesh pacer Taskin Ahmed would have made his first appearance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in the upcoming IPL 2022 edition, but the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) denied him a No Objection Certificate (NOC), reports suggested.

The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) franchise was dealt a major blow even before the start of their inaugural IPL season when England pacer Mark Wood was ruled out of the entire IPL 2022 after suffering an elbow injury during the first Test against the West Indies in Antigua last week.

There were reports that Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) approached Taskin Ahmed, who is currently playing in the ODI series in South Africa, to replace Mark Wood for the upcoming IPL 2022.

According to a report by Bangladesh website Kaler Kantha, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) mentor Gautam Gambhir called the BCB on Sunday, March 20 evening and proposed an IPL contract for Taskin.

But there was a condition that the 26-year-old pacer won't be able to take part in the two-match Test series in South Africa, starting March 31, if he wishes to play in the IPL 2022.

However, the Bangladesh Cricket Board official, on Monday (March 21), said that Taskin Ahmed will not receive No-Objection Certificate keeping in mind the amount of international cricket coming up.

As reported by Cricbuzz, BCB cricket operations chairman Jalal Yunus told reporters:Since we have two important series like the ongoing home tour of South Africa and the home series against India, we feel it won't be right for him to take part in the IPL.”

He added, “We have spoken with Taskin and he has understood the whole situation. He informed the franchise that he is not playing the IPL and will be available for the South Africa tour and later will return back home.”
