CSK will play KKR in the IPL 2022 opener on March 26 in Wankhede.
One was all-rounder Shardul Thakur, who was bought by Delhi Capitals (DC) in the auction and the biggest blow came in form of South African opener Faf du Plessis, who was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the auction and was recently named the captain of the side for IPL 2022.
The 37-year-old South African was part of the Yellow Army for seven years and finished as the second-highest run-getter in IPL 2021. He was also the leading run-getter for the team in the forgetful IPL 2020 campaign as well.

Now former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan has suggested a perfect opening batter to replace Faf du Plessis and partner Ruturaj Gaikwad at the top and it happens to be one of his former India teammates.
Speaking on the Star Sports show ‘Game Plan’, Pathan said that though Devon Conway will look comfortable in Maharashtra conditions, he suggested the name of Robin Uthappa as the opener.
Pathan further added that if they opt for Uthappa at the top with Ruturaj, it opens a space for Sri Lanka mystery spinner Maheesh Theekshana.
"If Conway doesn't play and Uthappa opens, then you will get a chance to play Maheesh Theekshana from the start. Obviously, you need to play other overseas players like Adam Milne because you need that extra pace on Maharashtra pitches. You have Bravo. You are going to play Moeen Ali. So, all four slots will be filled. But if Conway doesn't play, then Mahesh Theekshana, the mystery spinner, will come into play," he said.
The tournament opener is scheduled to take place between Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders on March 26 in Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
