Watson says he's excited to work with Ricky Ponting at the Delhi Capitals camp in IPL 2022.
Watson, who retired from international cricket in 2016 and from all cricket including the IPL in 2020, played for a bunch of different teams in the most popular T20 league in the world. He played for Rajasthan Royals and was the first-ever MVP in IPL 2008. He then represented Royal Challengers Bangalore and then played his final few seasons for the Chennai Super Kings winning the IPL 2019 with them.
Watson was also excited at the prospect of working with his former Australia captain Ricky Ponting, who is the head coach of the DC franchise, which is captained by Rishabh Pant.
He posted: “Really excited to share the news that I will be leaving for India this week to begin a role as assistant coach of @delhicapitals. Can’t wait to be back in the change rooms with my great mate @rickyponting”
In the video, he says, "The IPL, the best T20 tournament in the world. I have incredible memories as a player and now coaching opportunities have come. To be able to work under the great Ricky Ponting. He is an amazing leader as captain and now he is one of the best coaches in the world. For me to be able to learn the ropes under Ricky, I am really excited. Now is the time for Delhi Capitals to win their first title. They have a great squad."
Meanwhile, the Delhi Capitals (DC) also confirmed the appointment of Shane Watson as their assistant coach in a post on social media.
They posted: "It gives us great pleasure to welcome one of the greatest T20 all-rounders and a bona fide IPL legend to the Delhi Capitals as an Assistant Coach. Can't wait to have you in the DC camp, @srwatson33."
The IPL 2022 will begin from March 26 onwards, and the Delhi Capitals will face off against Mumbai Indians at the Brabourne Stadium on March 27 in the first match of the double-header.
