Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Monday (February 28) announced their captain for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Taking to Twitter, PBKS revealed that opening batter Mayank Agarwal will lead the side in the forthcoming season.

“Attention #SherSquad ???? Our ????© Mayank Agarwal Send in your wishes for the new #CaptainPunjab,” the franchise tweeted.

Agarwal was one of the two players that were retained by the Punjab-based franchise alongside Arshdeep Singh ahead of the IPL 2022 mega-auction.

Mayank Agarwal had captained PBKS for a few games last year when KL Rahul was injured. He has also been impressive with the bat for Punjab in the last couple of seasons, amassing 400+ runs.

During the IPL 2022 mega-auction earlier this month, PBKS had roped in leading names such as Shikhar Dhawan, Jonny Bairstow, Liam Livingstone, Kagiso Rabada and bought back left-arm spinner Harpreet Brar and swashbuckling Tamil Nadu batter Shahrukh Khan.
