If the report from Cricbuzz is to be believed then the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL 2022) will be having its league matches played across four venues across Maharashtra. Mumbai will be hosting 55 matches, while Pune will host 15 encounters.

The three stadiums that will host 55 matches in total are the Wankhede Stadium, Brabourne Stadium, and DY Patil Stadium. The remaining 15 games will be held at the MCA International Stadium in Pune.

The venue for the playoffs is yet to be decided.

Cricbuzz report also read that all teams are set to play four league games each at the Wankhede, DY Patil Stadium, and three apiece at Brabourne and Pune. The total number of matches will be 74 given that two new teams have been added to the mix.

The teams are expected to be divided into two groups of 5 each. Then the teams in each group will play twice amongst themselves and once against each team of the opposite group, with the same format being used from IPL 2011.

Official broadcaster Star Sports wants the IPL 2022 to kick off from March 26, a Saturday, while the other date being discussed is March 27, Sunday. The final decision regarding the same will be taken in the IPL governing council meeting set to take place on February 24.

Star wants the tournament to kick off on March 26, a Saturday with three matches on the weekend including a double-header to be played on Sunday. The negotiations are still ongoing at the moment which is the reason why the BCCI hasn’t made an official announcement regarding the schedule as of yet.

As per BCCI’s plans, the tournament begins on March 27 and ends on May 29. Based on this, Star Sports has also asked the commentators of the league to make themselves available from March 19 to June 7 via email.
