West Indies wicketkeeper-batter Nicholas Pooran gave his teammates a pizza party at their hotel in Kolkata after he was sold to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in IPL 2022 auction.

Pooran was acquired by Sunrisers Hyderabad for a whopping price of INR 10.75 crores. Many didn’t expect him to go for such a high price, especially considering his performance in the IPL 2021, where he scored just 85 runs, and his poor show in the recently concluded ODI series against India.

However a bidding war happened between many teams when his name came up but in the end, SRH bagged him for a high price.

After being sold to the ‘Orange Army’ the wicketkeeper batter gave his West Indies teammates a pizza party inside the bio-bubble, ordering 15 pizzas from the hotel chef that cost him INR 15,000.

Speaking to PTI, the local manager, revealed that after Nicholas Pooran was roped in by SRH at IPL 2022 auction at a staggering price, he gave his teammates a pizza party and ordered 15 boxes of pizza, which were sanitized before delivery.

“Since outside food is not allowed he placed the order at the hotel chef for 15 pizzas. It needed to be vetted by a qualified chef. Since it’s a strict grade one big bubble we have to tell the food temperature and how it is sanitized and then only it goes to the room.

“There were a total of 15 pizza boxes and everything was sanitized before being delivered to the room. The player had to make the payment," the Team manager said.

The manager further said that Nicholas Pooran got a shock inside his hotel room. The wicketkeeper batter had asked for a spare phone charger, which was given to him after being sanitized.

He added that fragments of sanitizer, which contains alcohol, were there on the charger and when he plugged in resulted in him getting a mild shock.

He also remarked that after the conclusion of the T20I series against India, West Indies will go for golfing and shopping before flying home next week.

“When he put it in the socket, he was shaken by a mild shock. Sanitiser contains alcohol and probably it did not dry up properly when he plugged it to get a jolt.

“They will go golfing and do some shopping in the evening. They are scheduled to fly out on Tuesday,” he said.

Nicholas Pooran will be next seen in action when West Indians will face India in the first T20I at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Wednesday (16th February).
