Indian cricketer Deepak Chahar has opened up about what MS Dhoni and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) told him when he joined the Men in Yellow in IPL 2018.

Chahar was purchased by the CSK for whopping INR 14 crores on Day 1 of the recently concluded IPL 2022 mega auction in Bengaluru.

He has been part of the Chennai franchise since 2018 and before joining CSK, the pacer played alongside Dhoni for the Rising Pune Supergiant during CSK’s suspension years in 2016 and 2017.

At the IPL 2022 auction, Chahar triggered a massive bidding war and CSK had to break the bank to bring him back for the next three seasons. After returning to CSK, Chahar recalled his special interaction with the CSK and Dhoni in 2018, saying they had told him they would always play for Chennai in the IPL.

Chahar told Star Sports: “I don't think there would be any difference because I would be going back to CSK and seeing the same faces which I have been seeing for the last four years. Even in Pune, we had the same guys. Mahi Bhai and Srinivasan sir told me in 2018 that I would always play in yellow.”

He signed off by saying, “I have never spoken to them after that about this. I have been trying to be an all-rounder since I started playing cricket. In league cricket, I bat up the order. In 2018 I scored 48 runs once. When I touched 14cr, I didn't want to go further, because I knew CSK wouldn't go after that. I can't imagine myself to be playing in any other team.”
