The IPL 2022 auction has given many surprises on day one of the event on February 12, 2022, in Bengaluru.

Shreyas Iyer was the highest gainer when KKR bought him for INR 12.25 crores, while Delhi Capitals stole David Warner for just INR 6.25 crores. In a big surprise, Suresh Raina went unsold along with David Miller and Steve Smith.

However, as a bidding war was getting heated up for Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga, the auctioneer Hugh Edmeades collapsed from the dais due to Postural Hypotension which brought the proceedings to a halt. The medical team attended to him immediately after the incident.

The BCCI provided an update on the health of the British auctioneer. "The IPL auctioneer is stable, the medical guys are looking at him. He should be back for the mega auction in the next set," the BCCI media manager told media.

Though the auctioneer was doing well and was stable, he was placed under precautionary medical supervision.

The IPL announced that Charu Sharma will continue as the auctioneer for the remainder of day one.
