Glenn Maxwell has been retained for a sum of INR 11 crores by the RCB.
Australia’s star all-rounder, Glenn Maxwell, admitted that the Indian Premier League (IPL) has had a major impact on his career and life and that his stint in the IPL had changed him both as a person and as a cricketer.
Maxwell was purchased by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the IPL auction in 2021 for a whopping INR 14.25 crores. And the explosive all-rounder performed exceptionally well and finished as the highest run-scorer for the RCB in the IPL 2021 with 513 runs in 15 games to his name.
Following a stellar IPL 2021 season, the Aussie star helped Australia lift its maiden T20 World Cup 2021 trophy in the UAE. He was also an exception in the recent Big Bash League (BBL) (BBL 2021-22), amassing nearly 500 runs for Melbourne Stars.
Now Maxwell has been retained for a sum of INR 11 crores by his franchise RCB along with Virat Kohli and Mohammed Siraj ahead of the IPL mega auction in 2022.
Speaking about his IPL journey, Maxwell said that playing in the world’s biggest T20 league changed him both as a person and a cricketer and helped him meet some of his heroes.
Maxwell said on RCB’s podcast to Danish Sait: “The IPL has changed my life in an amazing way that I have been able to meet some of my heroes, some of the people I have admired playing for and against. IPL has changed me as a cricketer, changed me as a person.”
The 33-year-old further added that he owes the IPL “a hell of a lot” because the tournament has helped him develop as an international cricketer and helped him adapt to different situations.
He added, “I probably wasn’t as culturally aware as a young player about India. The people that I have met, the things that I have learned from the IPL have helped me as a cricketer and more importantly as a person.
I owe the IPL a hell of a lot because it has also helped me as an international cricketer. I have been able to adapt to different situations which I never thought I would do ever.”
Maxwell signed off by saying, “I wasn’t possible as culturally aware as a young player coming to India. When I was in India this year (2021), it was the 24th time I visited the country which is quite a few times in your 11-year career.”
