The Lucknow franchise was bought by RP Sanjiv Goenka Group for approximately ₹7000 crore.
Taking to Twitter, Lucknow’s official handle revealed that the team will be called “Lucknow Super Giants.”
Unveiling the name, Sanjiv Goenka, the owner of the franchise, said: “The name that we have chosen based on your recommendations is Lucknow Super Giants. Thank you so much for your response and your love. Continue to give us your blessings in the future as well.”
The Lucknow franchise was bought by RP Sanjiv Goenka Group (RPSG) in October last year for approximately ₹7000 crore (over 932 million USD).
In IPL 2016 and 2017, the RPSG group had owned the Rising Pune Supergiant team. They were successful in reaching the final of IPL 2017, after failing to make it to the playoffs in IPL 2016.
Last week, Lucknow Super Giants signed the trio of KL Rahul, Marcus Stoinis and Ravi Bishnoi ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction.
Although IPL Governing Council has set INR 15 crore, INR 11 crore and INR 7 crore for teams to retain three players, Lucknow bought Rahul as Player 1 for a whopping INR 17 crore.
On the other hand, Stoinis, who has been roped in as Player 2, will receive INR 9.2 crore while uncapped Ravi Bishnoi will get INR 4 crore.
