Chennai Super Kings (CSK) CEO Kasi Viswanathan revealed that it’ll be his franchise’s endeavor to try and buy back for Faf du Plessis in the IPL 2022 mega auction. The defending champions announced their four retained players on November 30 deadline.

The 'yellow brigade’ chose to retain premier all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja as their first pick for INR 16 crores with skipper MS Dhoni being the second pick for INR 12 crores. Moeen Ali was their foreign retention for INR 8 crores while Ruturaj Gaikwad was their final retention for INR 6 crores.

While the franchise retained four key players, some big names like Faf du Plessis, Dwayne Bravo, Suresh Raina and Sam Curran missed out.

There’s no doubt that Faf du Plessis has been a vital cog in CSK’s batting line-up since his debut for the franchise. He also played a major role in his team’s triumph in IPL 2021 as he ended the season as second-highest run-scorer with 633 runs to his name.

While it was Moeen Ali's all-around abilities that got him a nod ahead of Faf du Plessis in the retention list, CSK’s CEO Kasi Viswanathan said that they’ll try their best to bring ‘team man’ Du Plessis back in the auction.

He added that although they'll try to bring key players back but it’s not completely in their hands and they will wish all the players luck wherever they will be.

"We look forward to getting them back. For example, Faf has been a team man who has taken us to the finals of two important seasons. It will be our endeavor to go and try for him. But it's not in our hands. We wish them all the very best wherever they are. We look forward to having a very good 2022,” Kasi Viswanathan said in a video posted by the Chennai Super Kings.

Viswanathan admitted that Chepauk has been a lucky ground for them and they hope that they’ll have a full-capacity crowd at MA Chidambaram Stadium for the IPL 2022.

“Chennai has been a very lucky ground for us, we had a good home advantage. That is because of the support we get from the CSK fans who throng to the stadium. I hope that this year, we get the entire MA Chidambaram Stadium for our use," he said.
