IPL 2022: Andy Flower steps down as PBKS coach; Trevor Bayliss parts ways with SRH

Flower and Bayliss are likely to get a role in the new IPL team Lucknow.

Punjab Kings (PBKS) head coach Andy Flower has parted ways with the franchise and is likely to get a role in the new IPL team Lucknow ahead of the 2022 edition of the league.

Speaking to Cricbuzz, PBKS co-owner Ness Wadia confirmed the development that Flower has left the position.

"It is correct, Andy has left Punjab Kings. He wanted to explore other opportunities and we respect that," Wadia said before confirming that the former Zimbabwe batter will continue to be the head coach of their Caribbean Premier League (CPL) side, St Lucia Zouks.

Flower was performing the role under Anil Kumble and Wadia said that the latter will continue to be the head of Punjab’s coaching staff.

Meanwhile, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) management also confirmed that Trevor Bayliss has left the chief coach post and they are looking for a new coach.

"He has moved on and we'll announce the new coach soon," an SRH official said.

Bayliss had joined the Hyderabad team after guiding England to the 2019 World Cup win. Earlier, he had coached Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to two IPL titles – in 2012 and 2014.

According to Cricbuzz, both Flower and Bayliss are in talks with the Lucknow team. Besides, the Lucknow franchise has also approached Gary Kirsten, a former India coach, and Daniel Vettori, former RCB coach, for the coaching role. One of the four is expected to charge of the new IPL side.
