November 30th saw the final announcement of retained players by each of the original eight franchises in the Indian Premier League (IPL) ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction. Two new teams will make their debut as well, making the upcoming IPL edition a 10-team competition.

The two new franchises are- RPSG Ventures Ltd. - Lucknow (for INR 7,090 crores) and Irelia Company Pte Ltd (CVC Capital Partners) - Ahmedabad (for INR 5,625 crores).

As per BCCI rules, each team is allowed to retain a maximum of four players. These can be in two different combinations while picking their four players to retain: three Indians and one overseas, or two Indians and two overseas. The three Indians retained by franchises can all be capped, all uncapped or a mix of both.

Defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have been known to make the least changes to their squad as possible. However this being a mega auction and only four players being allowed to be retained, the CSK management had already announced that their first retention will be captain MS Dhoni.

Now it has been confirmed that the CSK franchise have retained all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja as their first retention for INR 16 crores and have also retained MS Dhoni for INR 12 crores. L Balaji also confirmed that MS Dhoni will continue to captain the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) franchise in upcoming IPL 2022.

Their foreign retention happens to be England all-rounder Moeen Ali for INR 8 crores, and their final retention was young opener Ruturaj Gaikwad for INR 6 crores.

With four players retained, CSK will have INR 48 crores to spend in IPL 2022 auction.
