Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Tuesday (October 12) extended their support towards all-rounder Dan Christian, who and his partner were at the receiving end of online abuse after the team’s defeat in the IPL 2021 Eliminator against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

"We're 100% with you @danchristian54 and we will not tolerate online abuse towards players and especially towards their families and loved ones," tweeted RCB.

"Winning and losing are a part of this beautiful game we all love. Our players put in the hard work day in and day out to reach the level they're at. They give it their everything to try and win the game for us," the franchise said in another post.

RCB on Monday (October 11) were knocked out of the cash-rich tournament with a four-wicket loss to KKR in a low-scoring affair in Sharjah.

Just a few hours after the game, Christian shared an Instagram story, in which he said that his partner has been subject to abuse on a post she made on the social photo site.

"Check out the comments section of my partner's Instagram post. I didn't have a great game tonight, but that's sport. However please, leave her out of it," he wrote.

Dan Christian had a tough outing in the Eliminator, scoring only nine runs and conceding 29 runs from his 1.4 overs without taking a wicket.

Earlier on Tuesday, RCB batter Glenn Maxwell alleged that he has experienced "absolutely disgusting" abuse on social media after the game.

"Great season by RCB, unfortunately we fell well short of where we thought we should be. Doesn't take away from an amazing season. Some of the garbage that has been flowing on social media is absolutely disgusting. We are human beings who are giving out best each and every day. Try being a decent person maybe instead of spreading abuse," he wrote in a post on his Twitter handle.
