For DC, left-arm spinner Akshar Patel once again starred with the ball, claiming two wickets by conceding only 18 runs in his four overs. Veteran off-spinner R Ashwin also returned with impressive figures of 1 for 20 in his four-over quota.
Chasing the paltry target, Delhi almost made a mess of it. Apart from Shikhar Dhawan (39 off 35 balls), the top and middle-order failed to step up to plate as the Capitals found themselves reeling at 99/6.
Amid the pressure situation, Shimron Hetmyer, batting at No. 7, rose to the occasion. The southpaw added a crucial 36-run stand for the seventh wicket with Akshar and stayed unbeaten on 28 off 18 balls to take DC over the line with three wickets in hand and two balls to spare.
With this victory, Delhi Capitals pipped CSK to occupy the first position on the IPL 2021 points table.
