Bayliss also counted few positives for SRH this season.
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) head coach Trevor Bayliss was happy that his team showed a lot of character against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Thursday (September 30) despite going through run of losses in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) in the UAE.
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) was already all but out of the playoffs race, as they showed great character against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), but eventually suffered a 6-wicket loss to CSK, thanks to Ruturaj Gaikwad (45) and Faf du Plessis’ (41) another brilliance with the bat in Sharjah.
SRH could manage only 134/7 in 20 overs with Wriddhiman Saha (44) being top scorer while Josh Hazlewood (3/24) and Dwayne Bravo (2/17) were star bowling performers for the CSK. Chennai chased down the target with 6 wickets in hand and became the first team to reach the IPL playoffs.
Bayliss said in the post-match press conference: “The most pleasing thing is that we showed a lot of character in the game, especailly with our bowling to stay in the game. When you are going through run of losses like we are in this year's IPL, it is quite easy to give on a situation like this. One of the things we are proud on ourselves was the fight.”
The coach added, “If you stay in the game, you give yourself opportunity, whatever that opportunity is. We came back pretty well in the game in the last two-three overs, so all credit to the bowlers tonight. Our fielding has been quite good throughout the tournament.”
Looking at the positives, the SRH head coach noted: “As I said, our fielding has been quite good throughout the tournament. It is one of the things we want to pride ourselves on and make a difference on the field. I think from the bowling point of view, Jason Holder has been pretty consistent for us.”
He concluded, “I thought Sidharth Kaul in the last two games that he has played has been good. The two overs that Abhishek (Sharma) bowled tonight were quite good as well. That is a positive sign for us.”
