After back-to-back defeats in the IPL 2021 second-leg, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) finally secured a convincing victory against Mumbai Indians (MI) by 54 runs on Sunday (September 26). RCB leggie Yuzvendra Chahal picked up three wickets, and Harshal Patel bagged four, including a hat-trick to defend their total of 165/6.

Mumbai started the run chase with an opening stand of 57 runs between Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock. It was Chahal who gave RCB a much-needed breakthrough by dismissing De Kock in the 7th over of the second innings.

"After the powerplay, Mumbai Indians was 56/0 and I knew middle-overs were going to be crucial. I thought that even if I do not take wickets, I wanted to keep it tight and not give away many runs so that pressure is there. Quinton de Kock has been dismissed by me four-five times before so I knew I can dismiss him," Chahal told teammate Harshal in a video posted on iplt20.com.

"I have improved on my top-spin, you bowl wider when someone is going after you, if you bowl it from the start, then it comes off as negative and the batter can get top of you," he added.

Bangalore looked like falling 15-20 runs short of a good total after losing Glenn Maxwell and AB de Villiers in the 19th over bowled by Jasprit Bumrah. But the RCB bowlers did an outstanding job to bowl out a batting-heavy Mumbai side on 111 runs.
