Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) locked horns in the 37th match of the IPL 2021 at Sharjah on Saturday (September 25).

Invited to bat first, PBKS posted 125/7 in their allotted 20 overs. It was a disappointing performance with the bat as no one managed to touch the 30-run mark. Aiden Markram was the top scorer with 27.

Jason Holder was the stand-out bowler for SRH, claiming three wickets by conceding only 19 runs in his four overs. Rashid Khan (1-17) and Sandeep Sharma (1-20) also bowled economically and chipped in with wicket apiece.

Chasing the paltry target, Sunrisers got off to a terrible start as they lost their two heavyweights in David Warner (2) and skipper Kane Williamson (1) with only 10 runs on the board. Mohammad Shami dismissed both of them.

While Wriddhiman Saha and Manish Pandey tried to steady the ship, they couldn’t succeed with the slow pitch assisting the spinners. Leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi ran through SRH’s middle-order as he removed Pandey (13), Kedar Jadhav (12) and Abdul Samad (1) to reduce them to 60/5.

Saha laboured his way to 37-ball 31 before getting run out in the 17th over, which saw Hyderabad sinking further to 92/6.

After his stunning bowling performance, all-rounder Jason Holder also scared the Punjab camp with his batting exploits but he didn’t get any support from the other end. Holder eventually remained unbeaten on 47 off 29 balls as SRH finished with 120/7 in 20 overs, losing the game by 5 runs.

Cricket experts on Twitter lauded the Punjab bowlers for successfully defending a low total.

Punjab Kings' batting coach Wasim Jaffer was also left elated by the victory as he posted a meme on Twitter from the famous Bollywood movie 'Lagaan', which states "Hum Jeet Gaye" (we won).
