Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) locked horns in the 35th match of the IPL 2021 at Sharjah on Friday (September 24).

Invited to bat first, RCB posted 156/6 in their allotted 20 overs on the back of Devdutt Padikkal’s 50-ball 70 and Virat Kohli’s 41-ball 53.

Despite a terrific start from the RCB, CSK bowlers pulled things back in the second half. DJ Bravo was the stand-out bowler, claiming 3 wickets by conceding 24 runs in his four overs. Shardul Thakur (2-29) and Deepak Chahar (1-35) also did a brilliant job with the ball.

In reply, Super Kings overhauled the target with 6 wickets in hand. While Ruturaj Gaikwad (38 off 26 balls) and Faf du Plessis (31 off 26 balls) led the foundation with a 71-run opening stand, Moeen Ali (23 off 18 balls) and Ambati Rayudu (32 off 22 balls) played handy knocks in the middle overs to keep the required run-rate in check.

In the end, veteran campaigners Suresh Raina (17* off 10 balls) and MS Dhoni (11* off 9 balls) formed a little partnership to take CSK over the line with 11 balls to spare.

For RCB, Harshal Patel did well with the ball, taking two wickets by giving away 25 runs in his 3.1 overs.

With this victory, CSK overtook DC to reclaim the pole position on the points table and cricket experts on Twitter showered rich praise on their clinical performance.
