Delhi Capitals (DC) head coach Ricky Ponting was elated to have Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant back together and heaped praise on his players for their “strong performance” to “restart things” with an 8-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in an Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) contest on Wednesday (September 22) in Dubai.

DC produced an excellent performance in their first match of the second phase of the IPL 2021 against SRH to retain their top spot in the points table. Well, Anrich Nortje (2/12) led the DC attack and he was brilliantly supported by Kagiso Rabada (3/37) and Akshar Patel (2/21) to restrict SRH to 134/9 in Dubai.

Chasing the modest target of 135, DC wrapped up the game in 17.5 overs with Shikhar Dhawan (42), Shreyas Iyer (47*), and Rishabh Pant (35*) scoring runs to win the game by 8 wickets in Dubai. Pant and Iyer also stitched an unbroken 67-run stand in 42 balls for the third wicket against SRH.

Following the victory, the DC head coach took to Twitter to laud his team performance against SRH.

Ponting tweeted, “Great to have these two back together. Strong team performance and happy to restart things with a win after our bowlers did a great job.”

Noteworthy, DC retained Pant as captain for the remainder of the IPL 2021 in the UAE despite Shreyas came back for the second half of the season. Pant was named DC captain earlier this year after Iyer was ruled out of the first half of the IPL 4 due to an injury.
