Delhi Capitals began their UAE-leg of IPL 2021 with a superb win over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Wednesday (22 September). The DC bowlers first restricted the Hyderabad-based franchise for just 134 and batters chased it down with 13 balls to spare.

DC batter Shreyas Iyer who missed out on the first leg of IPL 2021 owing to a shoulder injury he suffered during India’s home series against England earlier this year, was extremely happy with his 47 off 41 balls.

It was a great feeling to be out there. It was like a story unfolding the way I wanted it to. It really felt special because I expected myself to come back into the team and perform. I am really happy with my performance,” Iyer said.

After losing opener Prithvi Shaw (11) early, the right-hander joined Shikhar Dhawan in the middle and ensured that the Delhi-based franchise didn’t lose more quick wickets. While talking about his time out on the field, Iyer talked about how he backed his instincts.

IPL 2021: I completely respect DC's decision to continue with Rishabh Pant as captain- Shreyas Iyer

I wanted to be positive when I went into bat and I wanted to back my instincts. I looked to bat till the end and finish the game. And that's what happened. I gave myself some time in the middle and after a while, I was able to pick up the lengths of the deliveries,” the 26-year-old said.

The Mumbai-based cricketer then talked about the importance of starting the UAE-leg of IPL 2021 with a win, which also took Delhi Capitals to the top of the points table.

It's the best feeling in the world. When we came to Dubai, we were on top of the table and now starting off with a bang in this game, I feel that the spirits are high in the team. We need to continue with the same momentum and let's hope that we have a blast of a season,” the DC batter concluded.

Rishabh Pant and Co. will now be taking on Rajasthan Royals on Saturday (25 September) at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
