Pant captained DC in first-leg of IPL 2021 after Shreyas Iyer was ruled out due to injury.
But with IPL 2021 resuming from 19 September in the UAE after an indefinite suspension earlier this year, the Delhi-based franchise decided to keep Pant as the skipper, despite Iyer regaining full fitness and was good to go.
The former India cricketer Aakash Chopra in his latest YouTube video discussed this incident and also shared his take on the issue at hand.
“Rishabh Pant is the captain. It's OK but personally, I didn't like that decision. You decide on one captain, appoint him, he stays with you for 2-3 years, takes the team to the final.
he gets injured, you bring in a stand-in captain and then you say let's stay with the stand-in; 'Because he's doing well in international cricket, Shreyas, you can wait'. Ideally, that's not the right thing to do but it is what it is,” Chopra said in his latest YouTube video.
IPL 2021: Rishabh Pant to continue as Delhi Capitals' captain despite Shreyas Iyer’s return
Rishabh Pant was amazing with his leadership in the first-leg of IPL 2021 as DC is sitting pretty at the top of the table with 6 wins in 8 matches, the cricketer-turned-commentator believes qualifying for the knockouts will be an easy task for Delhi Capitals.
“In their last IPL in the UAE, they were brilliant. They were one of the first teams to qualify. Yes, they lost to MI four times but reached the finals which were their best season. Can they get better than that? They just have to win two matches and they'll qualify so there's no doubt this team will reach the final four,” the 43-year-old concluded.
The Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals will begin their UAE-leg of IPL 2021 facing off Sunrisers Hyderabad on 22 September in Dubai.
