Pant became captain after Shreyas Iyer was ruled out India-leg of IPL 2021 due to shoulder injury.
Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant is likely to be retained as Delhi Capitals (DC) captain in the second phase of the India Premier League (IPL 2021), resuming on September 19 in the UAE.
After Shreyas Iyer was ruled out of the first half of IPL 2021 due to a shoulder injury that he suffered in an ODI against England in March earlier this year, the Delhi Capitals (DC) management handed the captaincy to Pant, who did the brilliant job.
Pant captained the DC to 6 wins from 8 matches and took the side to the top of the points table before the IPL 14 was suspended due to the COVID-19 outbreak in India.
Well, Iyer is now fit and raring to go and ready to go, but the franchise management doesn’t want to change captains for the rest of the season as they have been doing well under Pant and he will reportedly lead the side in UAE as well.

According to Cricbuzz, DC doesn’t want to change captains and take a chance with Iyer, as he has not played a competitive match since March 2021.
Though the franchise has not yet officially confirmed the news, DC’s two top officials Kiran Kumar Granthi and Parth Jindal are unanimous on the captaincy issue.
It is being said that the DC management will make an announcement once all members of the team, including coaches, assemble in Dubai.
Notably, DC will kick off their UAE leg of the IPL 2021 against Sunrisers Hyderabad on September 22 in Dubai followed by Rajasthan Royals on September 25, Kolkata Knight Riders on September 28, Mumbai Indians on October 2, Chennai Super Kings on October 4, and Royal Challengers Bangalore on October 8.
