Dhoni had announced his international cricket retirement on Aug 15 2020.
Dhoni then took CSK to the final of the IPL 2008 only to lose to Rajasthan Royals. But he then won the CSK two back-to-back IPL titles in 2010 and 2011. He has been a constant in the team along with Suresh Raina and Ravindra Jadeja.
When the CSK returned to the IPL fold after serving a two-year suspension, Dhoni, Jadeja, and Raina were the three players they retained from their previous squad. He then led the CSK team to their third IPL title in 2018 on return.
In 2020, Dhoni was preparing for the IPL 2020 in Chennai which was to be played in UAE. On August 15 that year, at 19.29 hours, Dhoni’s Instagram account had a post announcing his retirement from international cricket. It was a shocking announcement as many had believed that he will bid adieu after playing in the T20 World Cup that year.
