Sakariya picked 7 wickets in 7 matches in IPL 2021 for Rajasthan Royals.
Rajasthan Royals (RR) Director of Cricket Kumar Sangakkara on Thursday (May 13) heaped praise on young bowler Chetan Sakariya, saying the left-arm pacer was a revelation for the side in the recently suspended Indian Premier League (IPL 2021).
The Sri Lankan legend was mightily impressed with the Saurashtra pacer’s attitude, ability to deal with pressure, and his skill in his debut IPL season with the Rajasthan Royals (RR).
In the IPL 2021, the RR handed Sakariya the golden opportunity and the youngster made the most of each and every opportunity in the tournament, impressing all with his death-bowling skills and consistency. He scalped seven wickets in the tournament.
RR was at the fifth position with 6 points from 7 games in the IPL 14 points table before the T20 league was suspended on May 4 due to a rising number of COVID-19 cases inside the bio-bubble.
Sangakkara said in a webinar organized by RR on Thursday: “Chetan was a revelation, his attitude, his ability to deal with pressure, and of course, his skill.”
The former Sri Lankan captain also hailed the other youngsters Anuj Rawat and Yashasvi Jaiswal.
He further said, “We had Anuj and Yash, the two youngsters who have been with the franchise for a very, very long time. And I was thoroughly impressed by all three of them. They actually got a reasonable amount of time in the middle. Unfortunately, in the match that Anuj came into he didn't get a chance to bat but was outstanding with his energy and skill in the field.”

He signed off by saying, “For us, Riyan Parag is a very, very special player. I think he's got a huge amount to contribute to not just the Royals, but also to Indian cricket in the future. A very special talent that needs care, nurturing, and development.”
