The 2021 edition of IPL was postponed due to COVID-19 breach in the bio-bubble.
Subsequently, the BCCI and the IPL franchises have done their bit to arrange the secure and safe passage of all the players and support staff members.
On Tuesday (May 11), Delhi Capitals (DC) informed the fans that most of their cricketers, support staff members have reached home safely, and some are quarantining outside India.
Providing update on Australian recruits, DC tweeted: “Ricky Ponting, Marcus Stoinis, Steve Smith, Patrick Farhart, James Hopes are presently under quarantine in Maldives.”
Sharing the status of England players, DC wrote: “Tom Curran, Sam Billings and Chris Woakes are under quarantine in London”, before adding South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje and West Indies’ Shimron Hetmyer have reached their respective homes safely.
In another tweet, Delhi Capitals shared update on local players and support staff, stating: “All of our Indian players and staff have reached their respective homes safely.”
The IPL 2021 season saw only 29 games being held in four venues and DC were the table toppers when the tournament was postponed, winning 6 out of their 8 games under the captaincy of Rishabh Pant.
In order to complete the tournament, the BCCI is looking at a 20-day window with multiple double-headers and it could be held in September after the conclusion of India’s England tour.
