Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag has heaped praise on Delhi Capitals’ pacer Avesh Khan, saying no one is talking about the Indian bowler, but for him, he is the “under the radar” player of the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) so far.

The IPL 2021 might have got suspended after just 29 games due to the Coronavirus outbreak inside its bio-bubble, but during the course of these matches, the cricket fans witnessed exhilarating performances from uncapped Indian players like Harshal Patel, Chetan Sakariya, and Avesh Khan.

Delhi Capitals’ Shikhar Dhawan is currently the Orange Cap holder with 380 runs from eight matches while Royal Challenger Bangalore’s Harshal Patel is the Purple Cap holder with 17 wickets from seven games in the IPL 14 before the T20 league got postponed due to the COVID-19 crisis in India.

DC’s Avesh Khan was among the standout performers in the IPL 2021 so far as the pacer ended up taking 14 wickets across eight matches including two three-wicket hauls in the tournament. He is only behind RCB’s Patel in the list of the highest wicket-taker in the lucrative T20 event.

Sehwag said on Cricbuzz: “In this team, we talk about Rabada, Ashwin, Patel, Mishra… but no one talks about Avesh Khan. So, he is this season's 'under-the-radar player. He comes quietly, picks up 2-3 wickets, and was [up there in the race for Purple Cap, next only to Harshal Patel.”

Meanwhile, former Zimbabwe cricketer Pommie Mbangwa also agreed with Sehwag’s thought on Avesh saying the Indian star deserves a lot more credit for the way he has bowled in the IPL 2021 till now.

Mbangwa told Cricbuzz:No doubt, it's Avesh Khan. I don't think there's been too much said about him, or written about him. But he's just gone about doing his job efficiently.”

He signed off by saying, “He's been effective at the front and at the end. He's taken wickets in all three phases of the game and at the death too, he has been very good bowling nice lengths, changing his pace when needed to and bowling good yorkers at the back end too.”
