As the number of COVID-19 cases continues to rise across the country, there were a lot of talks about whether the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) should go on or should the tournament be called off.

While many people felt it is inappropriate to continue IPL with a lot of people suffering, there are many who believe that the league should be continued as it is an important distraction for the majority which gives them joy during these tough times.

Former England skipper Michael Vaughan made it clear that he wants the IPL to continue as it is bringing joy to billions. But, he could not understand English and Australian players pulling out of the games in South Africa recently, while they were allowed to play in India.

IPL 2021: IPL 14 to go on as scheduled, confirms BCCI president Sourav Ganguly

I think the IPL should carry on, The joy it will be bringing billions in these awful times every evening is important, but I do find it tough to think back how England & Aussie pulled out of games in SA,yet both countries players are allowed to play in India !!! #IPL2021,” Vaughan wrote on Twitter.

Even though there were talks about calling the IPL off, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has made it clear that the tournament will go on as scheduled with stricter protocols to be implemented.

A handful of foreign players pulled out of the IPL 14 fearing getting locked out of their own countries, IPL COO Hemang Amin assured all the players and support staff that the tournament will not be over for BCCI until all the players reach their homes safe and sound.
