IPL 2021: Virender Sehwag baffled by SRH's decision to ignore Jonny Bairstow in the super over

Bairstow scored 18-ball 38 runs in the match against Delhi Capitals but didn't get to bat in super over.

Former India cricketer Virender Sehwag was shocked by Sunrisers Hyderabad's (SRH) decision to send the pair of David Warner and Kane Williamson for the super over against Delhi Capitals (DC). They ignored the in-form Jonny Bairstow who was striking the ball the best in the SRH side.

SRH lost the clash against DC in the super over after they could only score 7 runs, which was never going to be enough against Delhi. Sehwag felt unless Bairstow was in the toilet, the decision to send skipper Warner and Williamson didn't make any sense.

In the match on Sunday (April 25), Bairstow scored 18-ball 38 which included four sixes and 3 fours. Sehwag said the Englishman should have been the first choice of SRH in the one-over eliminator.

"Unless Bairstow was in the toilet, can't get why would he not be your first choice in a #SuperOver when he scored 38 of 18 in the main innings and looked the cleanest hitter," he said.

Sehwag further added that the decision cost them the match and they have themselves to blame for it. "Baffling, Hyderabad fought well but  have only themselves to blame for strange decisions. #SRHvsDC," he said.

SRH are currently at the number seven position in the points table with only one win in five matches. Only Kolkata Knight Riders are below them with a worse Net Run Rate.
