The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) team mentor David Hussey has backed opening batsman Shubman Gill who has been out of form in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) as he believes that Gill will end up among the highest-scoring batsmen.

Hussey, who is impressed with Gill’s batting in the Test series against Australia in Australia, in a virtual press conference said that “He is a star player, he took the Test match arena by storm in Australia. He is very specific and he has a great work ethic.

All I can say is that form will come and go, class is always permanent. He is one class individual, both on and off the field. Mark my words, he will be one of the highest-scoring batsmen by the end of the tournament. He is an absolute class act,” he added.

KKR who started their IPL 2021 campaign with a win suffered their fourth-consecutive loss and have slipped to the bottom of the points table and thus will be looking for all the strategies as the former Australia batsman said, “We will look at all strategies going ahead, everything is on the table in terms of selection.

IPL 2021: "He is a terrific player, and he is your future," Agarkar wants KKR to persist with Gill as opener

When asked about considering New Zealand speedster Lockie Ferguson, the 43-year-old said, “Lockie Ferguson is at the peak of his powers, he is a class act and he is an excellent player for New Zealand. He bowled well for KKR last year in UAE. He is going to push for selection for the next games.

After losing to Rajasthan Royals (RR), the two-time champions will be taking on KL Rahul’s Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
