Padikkal scored 101* while Kohli remained unbeaten on 72 during the chase.
Invited to bat first, RR posted 177/9 in 20 overs on the back of Shivam Dube’s 32-ball 46 and Rahul Tewatia’s 23-ball 40.
Mohammed Siraj was the stand-out bowler for RCB, claiming 3 wickets by giving away 27 runs in his four overs. Harshal Patel also picked up three scalps but he was a bit expensive, conceding 47 runs in his four-over quota.
In reply, RCB openers Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal put on a show with the bat, sharing an unbroken 181-run stand to take the team over the line with 10 wickets in hand and 21 balls to spare.
In particular, Padikkal was severe on the RR bowlers, slamming his maiden IPL ton in 51 balls and the southpaw remained unbeaten on 101 off 52 balls with 11 fours and 6 sixes. On the other hand, skipper Kohli finished with 72 not out off 47 balls, including 6 fours and 3 sixes.
It was RCB’s fourth victory in as many games and they are now occupying the top slot in the points table.
For his stunning display with the bat, Devdutt Padikkal garnered rich praise from the cricket fraternity on Twitter.
