As Delhi Capitals’ (DC) Chennai leg kick start with an IPL 2021 clash against Mumbai Indians (MI) on Tuesday (April 20) in IPL 2021, India and DC opener Shikhar Dhawan has admitted that challenge to switch on mentally according to the wicket at the MA Chidambaram Stadium and prepare their plans.

The veteran batsman further said that the defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) have adapted to the conditions quite well in Chennai having played three games there, whereas his team will play its first game at the Chepauk, causing a mental challenge when the two teams lock horns in an IPL 14 contest on Tuesday.

However, the left-hander has stressed that the DC will have to play with a positive mindset against MI and look to win their first game at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai in the ongoing IPL 14.

Dhawan said in a DC’s official release: “The Mumbai Indians have played three games in Chennai, so they know the conditions there. For us, the challenge will be to switch on mentally according to the wicket and prepare our plan. Then we just have to go out there and implement the plan and play with a positive mindset and look to win the game.”

The 35-year-old has recently played a magnificent knock of 92 runs from 49 balls to help DC chase down 195/4 against Punjab Kings on Sunday.

He said of the win, “We needed a good start according to the situation. Prithvi (Shaw) played really well in the first two-three overs, and I was timing the ball well. I am glad that we strung a partnership of 50 runs. We scored 50-odd runs in five overs, so we were ahead of the game in the first six overs.”

On being asked about how he produces consistent performances at the top of the order for the DC in the IPL, the opener said he takes everything easily which always helps him.

Dhawan signed off by saying, “I just look to take it easy. In my mind, I tell myself that I am very fit and strong, and my journey will be very easy.”
