David Warner rued misexecution of the first delivery of most overs while bowling after Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) suffered a 10-run defeat in their IPL 2021 opener against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Chepauk on Sunday (April 11).

Opting to bowl first, SRH conceded a massive 187/6 in 20 overs as Nitish Rana and Rahul Tripathi played knocks of 80 and 53 for KKR.

Rashid Khan was the stand-out bowler for Sunrisers, claiming 2 wickets by conceding 24 runs in his four overs.

Chasing the target, SRH managed 177/5 in their allotted 20 overs despite half-centuries from Manish Pandey (61* off 44 balls) and Jonny Bairstow (55 off 40 balls).

"I didn't think there were that many runs on this wicket. They adapted really well, had a good partnership. We misexecuted the first ball of most overs and then conceded a lot at the end. We lost early wickets, and Jonny and Manish got us in a good position, so we had our chances," Warner said at the post-match presentation ceremony.

The SRH captain hoped that his side will get used to the playing conditions at MA Chidambaram Stadium for the upcoming games.

"The dew made a difference. If the bowlers overpitched, it was easy to hit it, and with the height in their team, and with the cross-seam, it stopped a little bit on us. We would like to have won the first game, but we have four more games at this venue and hopefully, we will get used to the square and the dimensions of this ground," he added.

Sunrisers Hyderabad will take on Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in their next game on Wednesday (April 14).
