Rishabh Pant won his first match as a captain in IPL against Chennai Super Kings on Saturday.
Former wicket-keeper batsman Deep Dasgupta was also impressed with Pant’s captaincy and showered him with praises. According to Dasgupta, the southpaw looked calm and composed even when his bowlers were getting belted around the park.
“As far as his captaincy, I think it's a little too early but there are few things he could have done differently. But getting flustered, no! He looked pretty calm even when Suresh Raina and then Moeen Ali or Sam Curran, in the death, went after the bowlers. His body language was good, nice, and calm,” Deep said.
Even though DC won the match, the former India cricketer feels, it will take a couple of more games for the left-hander from Delhi to settle down in his new role.
“As far as his body language is concerned, you can understand, big franchise and first-time captain, last year's finalist. Also, you have these really senior players like Shikhar, Ajinkya, Ashwin so it can't be easy.
So give him another couple of games to settle down in his role. Ricky Ponting is there as a coach. So another couple of games, he will settle down in his role,” he told Sports Today.
After beating the three-time champions, DC will now face Rajasthan Royals (RR) on 15 April at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
