Delhi Capitals (DC) were struck with big blows before the start of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) as their skipper Shreyas Iyer was ruled out due to an injury and all-rounder Akshar Patel had to isolate after testing positive for COVID-19.

But, according to DC team director Mustafa Ghouse, the off-spinner is in day 10 of his quarantine and Shreyas is in constant touch with Ricky Ponting and the team and is absolutely gutted to not be a part of this group.

Ya, Axar is better. Saturday will be day 10 of his quarantine process. Hopefully 3-4 more days, a couple of negative tests and he will be ready to join the team. We are running tests on him over the next few days to know how quickly we can get him back, available for selection,Mustafa told Sports Today.

He had checked into the team hotel in Mumbai on March 28 with a negative report. His report from 2nd COVID test came positive. He is in isolation at a designated medical care facility,” he added.

Shreyas Iyer, on the other hand has got sensation back in his hand after getting his left-shoulder operated.

Shreyas is better. He has got sensation back in his hand which is most important factor after the surgery. He is in constant touch of the boys and Ricky. All we have to do now is make sure that he is on path of recovery and getting back to playing at the level he has been before,” Ghouse said.

DC led by skipper Rishabh Pant will begin their IPL 14 campaign against three-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Saturday (April 10) at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
