Behrendorff, 30, comes in as a replacement for compatriot Josh Hazlewood, who pulled out of the competition last week to take a break from cricket after being in bio-secure bubbles for a long period of time.
“Australian fast bowler Jason Behrendorff has signed up with the Chennai Super Kings as a replacement for compatriot Josh Hazlewood for the VIVO Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021,” stated an IPL media release.
This is Behrendorff’s second IPL team. The left-arm quick has previously turned up for Mumbai Indians in 2019, claiming 5 wickets in as many games.
Behrendorff has represented Australia in 11 ODIs and 7 T20Is so far, picking up 16 and 7 scalps respectively.
IPL 2020 is due to begin on April 9, with Mumbai Indians taking on Royal Challengers Bangalore in the tournament opener at Chepauk.
Chennai Super Kings will open their campaign against Delhi Capitals on April 10 at the Wankhede Stadium.
