Mumbai Indians' only weakness was their spin department.
Five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians (MI) bought veteran spinner Piyush Chawla in the IPL 2021 auction, thus filling their spin department with an experienced cricketer.
MI had all their bases covered ahead of the IPL 2021 season but they lacked quality spinners apart from Rahul Chahar and all-rounder Krunal Pandya. Chawla, who is the second-highest Indian wicket-taker in the history of the IPL, will be the perfect player to slot into MI's spin club.
Former Indian wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel is of a similar opinion and has expressed the same on Star Sports' show Cricket Connected.
Parthiv told Star Sports, "I don't think it is a disadvantage for Mumbai Indians, because, if you look at the Mumbai Indians squad last year, there was only one thing which everyone could notice they didn't have an experienced spinner."

"They have Krunal Pandya and Rahul Chahar, but they needed someone experienced, and that's what Mumbai Indians did in this auction. They got Piyush Chawla, a very experienced campaigner in IPL," he added.
The southpaw also pointed out the Chawla knows how to bowl on slow tracks in Chennai, where MI will be playing most of their games in IPL 2021. Parthiv also applauded the Mumbai Indians for trying to fill their gaps despite winning the last couple of editions of the IPL.
He said, "He knows how to bowl on Chennai wicket or on slow and low wickets. So, I think Mumbai Indians have covered all the bases. It depends on where they are playing so it won't be a disadvantage."
"That's what champions can do, even after winning a tournament they try and fill spots and that's exactly what Mumbai Indians have done,” Parthiv Patel concluded.
