Explosive Australian opener David Warner poked fun at his national teammate Glenn Maxwell over his record IPL 2021 deal and said that It’s surprising, that he gets more and more in the auction every time he gets released.

Glenn Maxwell, who was bought by the Punjab Kings last season for a whopping price of Rs 10.75 crores, was among the five overseas players who were released by the KL Rahul-led side.

Glenn Maxwell in the last season failed to put the stage on fire with his bat consistently and failed to hit a single six, in the 11 innings he played. He faced 107 balls without hitting a maximum, something that does not go along with Maxwell's style of play.

However, even after having a disastrous IPL campaign Maxwell was one of the most expensive picks in the IPL 2021 auction as the Australian right-handed batsman was sold to Royal Challengers Banglore (RCB) for a whooping price of 14.25 crores.

Addressing the same David Warner, who is a commentator for Fox Cricket during first T20I match between New Zealand and Australia, while discussing the IPL 2021 auction with fellow expert Mark Waugh, said that it's surprising that Maxwell got a huge amount especially after failing last season.

“Not a bad result in the IPL auction for the ‘Big Show’ either,” David Warner said.

Considering his last IPL season,” Mark Waugh said.

“It’s surprising, you get let go from your franchise and you get a lot more after being released,”  said Warner.

David Warner further said that there's a lot of expectations from Glenn Maxwell and added this he's confident that latter will deliver.

“We know what he’s (Maxwell) capable of, and I’m sure there’s a bit of expectation but I’m sure he’ll deliver,” he said.

Maxwell finished IPL 2020 with just 108 runs at an average of 15.42, with a strike rate of 101.88.
