Chetan Sakariya lost his brother in January but his family didn't let him know.
Chetan Sakariya was out playing the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy for Saurashtra when he lost his brother. His family decided not to let him know as he would get distracted from his duty. As the IPL 2021 auction fetched him a Rs 1.2 crore contract with the Rajasthan Royals (RR), he is still mourning his brother's untimely and unexpected death.
Chetan's brother Rahul committed suicide in January. The family kept this news from the 22-year-old as it would have disturbed the youngster and might have affected his game. He got to know of it once he returned home from the tournament. Rahul's absence has now left a big void in the youngster's life.
Chetan told Indian Express, "My younger brother committed suicide in January. I wasn't at home, I was playing Syed Mushtaq Ali at that time. I didn't know he had passed away until I returned home. Even then, my family didn't share the news with me."
"I used to ask them about Rahul's whereabouts and they would tell me 'he has gone out'. Sometimes , they would say he had ventured out to buy groceries. This absence is a big void for me. Had he been here today he would have been more happy than me," he added.
Chetan's family does not boast of a lot of riches as his father was a tempo driver, who would have to work hard for bread. The youngster never wanted his father to work and was willing to do all the hardwork himself for his family. Now with the big paycheck from RR, he wants to a house for his family in Rajkot.
"I never wanted him to work, I told him, I will take care of my family. People are asking me, what I will do with so much money, I said, let the money come first. I always wanted to shift to Rajkot, somehow I didn't have decent money to buy a good house. Now, the first thing I will do is buy a house in a good locality," the 22-year-old said.
