IPL 2021 Auction: Punjab Kings rope in Australia's Riley Meredith for a hefty sum

Riley Meredith had a good outing the in Big Bash League 10 for Hobart Hurricanes.

The fast bowler from Australia, Riley Meredith, got sold to Punjab Kings (PBKS) for a whopping price of INR 8 crores in the IPL 2021 auction. Meredith, who played for Hobart Hurricanes in Big Bash League 2020-21, had a good outing in the 10th edition of the Australia-based T20 league.

The 24-year-old, who is uncapped, was available at a base price of INR 40 lakh. The first bid for Meredith was made by Delhi Capitals (DC). They engaged in a bidding war with Punjab Kings and it soon took up the pace.

Both the franchises kept going after him even though the price crossed over rupees 5 crores. Delhi was all in despite Punjab looked interested in the pacer. Not to forget, PBKS entered the auction with a heavy purse, and challenging them isn't easy. 

Delhi had to give up as soon as the bid touched INR 8 crores. Meredith was finally sold to Preity Zinta's Punjab Kings.

Meredith's figure from BBL 10 shows why Zinta was so keen to get him in Punjab. The speedster has picked up 16 wickets in 13 matches and he had a good economy of 7.83.
