IPL 2021: 5 impressive bowlers in Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy who could get a bid in auction

The IPL 2021 auction will take place in Chennai on February 18.

The recently concluded Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy has thrown many new faces and saw some veteran players coming into focus with impressive performances. This is extremely important given that the tournament was like an audition for the upcoming IPL 2021 auction on February 18.

Players of all the teams did their best in the opportunities they got and while the batsmen ruled the roost in the T20 tournament, there were many bowlers as well, who grabbed the focus as well, with their performances and possibly gained the attention of the IPL teams as well.

So today, Team COC looks at the five impressive bowlers from Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy, who could get a bid in the upcoming IPL 2021 auction.

 

M MOHAMMED (TAMIL NADU)

29-year-old medium-pacer M Mohammed contributed a great deal to Tamil Nadu’s second Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 trophy win. He played in 8 matches and picked 10 wickets with the best of 4/24 against Rajasthan. His economy was an impressive 6.81 and his bowling was one of the reasons why Dinesh Karthik could strategize his team’s wins so nicely.

 

JALAJ SAXENA (KERALA)

Jalaj Saxena is no stranger to IPL having been part of franchises like Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, and Royal Challengers Bangalore. A veteran of Indian domestic cricket, the all-rounder has 59 wickets in 59 T20 matches at an economy of 6.84.

In the recent Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy, Saxena, playing for Kerala, picked 10 wickets in 5 matches at an impressive economy of 6.26 and best bowling of 3/13. Saxena is also an accomplished batsman and franchises should keep an eye out for him as all-rounders are always in demand in the IPL auction.  

 

CHETAN SAKARIYA (SAURASHTRA)

Chetan Sakariya has a huge benefit for him, given that he is a left-arm pacer for Saurashtra. He picked 12 wickets in 5 matches for his team with a best of 5/11 against Vidarbha. His economy in the recent Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 trophy was 4.90.

The 22-year-old from Bhavnagar has trained under the watchful eyes of Australian legend Glenn McGrath at the MRF Pace Academy and emulates the action of Pakistan’s Junaid Khan and is one of the brightest prospects for IPL franchises looking for variety in their pace attacks.  

 

ASHUTOSH AMAN (BIHAR)

Bihar’s left-arm spinner Ashutosh Aman topped the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy wickets list with 16 scalps in 6 matches. His best bowling was 4/9 which came against Mizoram and his economy was 5.08.

Aman holds the record for most wickets in a single Ranji season- 68 which he took in the 2018/19 season, breaking the record of Bishan Singh Bedi. Though 34, Aman’s T20 career is in its infancy, and the IPL franchises are always on the lookout for breakout stars irrespective of age and experience and Aman is one of them.

 

LUKMAN MERIWALA (BARODA)

Another left-arm pacer who impressed a lot in the recent Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy was Baroda’s Lukman Meriwala. He picked 15 wickets in 8 matches at an economy of 6.52 and astonishing best figures of 5/8, which came against Chhattisgarh.

The 29-year-old Meriwala from Makan has played 17 FC matches, 31 List-A matches, and 44 T20 matches. He has an amazing 72 wickets in 44 T20 matches with an economy of 6.72 with 3 five-wicket hauls to his name. This is impressive enough to put him in the spotlight when the IPL 2021 auctions take place on February 18 in Chennai.
