The Mumbai Indians (MI) became the IPL 2020 champions by beating Delhi Capitals in the final on November 10 in Dubai. It was their fifth title win and their first back-to-back victories. It also broke their jinx of winning the titles only in odd-numbered years starting in 2013.

MI head coach Mahela Jayawardena has proven lucky for the franchise, as this was their third win under his guidance, and like before, the former Sri Lankan captain gave a brilliant team talk in the dressing room before the festivities began.

However, it was noticed that the team talk given after the IPL 2020 win was very similar to the one Jayawardena gave after MI won the IPL 2019 beating Chennai Super Kings in the final.

IPL 2020: Coach Mahela Jayawardena explains how he got MI team to break their odd-even IPL jinx

Jayawardena started his team talk in the dressing room on a humorous note by initially thanking the players for not taking the game to the last ball. The Sri Lankan followed it up by referring to his speech following the triumph last season, where he had brushed off the inability of his players to win the orange or purple cap, drawing focus towards the trophy instead.

Jayawardene's team talk during the two consecutive triumphs was captured in a video tweeted by the official Twitter handle of the franchise. "We've got this 2.0" ft @MahelaJay #OneFamily #MumbaiIndians #Believe #MIChampion5," the caption read.

MI captain Rohit Sharma added one more feather in his cap as he became the first player in IPL history to win the tournament six times, including five wins as captain. It was also his 200th appearance in the IPL tournament and he celebrated the occasion by scoring a half-century.
