IPL 2020: Shane Warne wants BCCI and ICC to do away with umpire's call in Decision Review System

IPL 2020: Shane Warne wants BCCI and ICC to do away with umpire's call in Decision Review System

Shane Warne is not happy with the current laws regarding the Decision Review System.

Mumbai Indians all-rounder Kieron Pollard found himself on the positive side of a couple of DRS calls during their last league-stage fixture against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Post the DRS calls, former Australian cricketer and current Rajasthan Royals mentor Shane Warne expressed disappointment with the system.

According to the existing laws of the Decision Review System, an Umpire's Call can only be overturned if more than half of the ball is not where the umpire intended it to be. In Pollard's case against SRH, Warner opted for an LBW review and found out that less than half of the ball was hitting the batsman's pads in line.

IPL 2020: Warner happy as SRH's "great resilience" takes them through to playoffs

Therefore, the umpire's 'not out' call stayed and Pollard survived. Warner opines that such calls should remain in favor of the captain asking for the review. He believes that no same ball can be out and not out.

Warne tweeted, "I'm going to keep banging on about this. If a captain reviews a decision-then the on-field umpires decision should be removed-as you can't have the same ball being out or not out ! Once this happens, it's simple and clear-whether it should be out or not! @BCCI @ICC @HomeOfCricket"

He further explained his view saying:

Ps This will also allow a more accurate picture of whether the umpires are getting the decisions right or not. Having umpires call helps the summary of an umpires performance ! Remove original onfield decision - which leads to no umpires call !!!
