Delhi Capitals (DC) faced Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the 55th match of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Monday (November 2).

Asked to bat first, RCB posted 152/7 in 20 overs on the back of Devdutt Padikkal’s 41-ball 50 and AB de Villiers’ 21-ball 35.

R Ashwin (1-18), Kagiso Rabada (2-30) and Anrich Nortje (3-33) were the stand-out bowlers for the Capitals.

In reply, DC lost Prithvi Shaw (9) cheaply. But the duo of Shikhar Dhawan and Ajinkya Rahane added 88 runs for the second wicket to put the team in a commanding position.

Shahbaz Ahmed broke the partnership by removing Dhawan for 41-ball 54. Shreyas Iyer (7) was Shahbaz’s second victim while Washington Sundar removed Rahane (60 off 46 balls) to reduce DC to 136/4.

However, the pair of Rishabh Pant (8*) and Marcus Stoinis (10*) shared an unbroken 18-run stand to take Delhi over the line with 6 wickets in hand and an over to spare.

With this victory, DC secured their place in the playoffs and they will meet Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 1. On the other hand, RCB are also safe thanks to their Net Run Rate but Tuesday’s clash between SRH and MI will determine whether they finish third or fourth.

Cricket experts took to Twitter and lauded Delhi Capitals’ stellar performance in a crunch contest against Virat Kohli’s men.
