Dhawan became the first batsman to score consecutive centuries in IPL.
Opting to bat first, DC lost Prithvi Shaw (7) cheaply but Shikhar Dhawan carried on his great form. Despite losing partners, the southpaw held the one end firmly and dominated the substantial partnerships he had with Shreyas Iyer (14), Rishabh Pant (14) and Marcus Stoinis (9).
Whether it was KXIP’s pacers or spinners, Dhawan treated every bowler with disdain and completed his century off just 57 deliveries in the penultimate over. It was his second consecutive ton in this year’s IPL after his match-winning 101* against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Sharjah.
Dhawan also carried his bat against Punjab, scoring 106 not out off 61 balls (12 fours and 3 sixes) as the Capitals eventually finished with 164/5 in 20 overs.
Cricket experts lauded Shikhar Dhawan for his terrific knock which propelled DC to a highly competitive total.
