Carey made his IPL debut for DC against MI on Sunday.
Delhi Capitals' wicketkeeper-batsman Alex Carey has opened up about his IPL debut and his team’s 5-wicket defeat against Mumbai Indians (MI) in the 27th game of the IPL 2020 on Sunday (October 12).
Carey made his IPL debut for DC in their last game against the defending champions in Abu Dhabi and the Australian star said it was really exciting and an honor to play for Delhi but was disappointed that the result didn’t come their way in the ongoing IPL 13 on Sunday.
However, the batsman said the Capitals were few runs short and didn't get the required support from the bowlers which cost them the game against MI, but Carey insisted a lot of positives can be taken from the loss, saying the DC fought hard but Mumbai were too good to conquer.
Carey said in a video posted on DC’s Twitter handle: “You always want to take it deep in a run chase and the way they had started, to take them to the last over was a good effort. But we were probably a couple short with the bat and didn't quite get the results with the ball.”
He further added, “We fought hard but they played really well tonight. But plenty of learning as well. We are halfway through the tournament and we are sitting pretty well. So, to come up against a good team like Mumbai. We will hold this is good stead moving forward.”
It was his debut game but the Aussie could score big 14* runs off 9 balls against the MI. However, Carey has expressed gratitude for the opportunity to play for the Capitals in the IPL 2020.
Alex signed off by saying, “Yeah, thank you! It's an honor to play for Delhi. My first game in the IPL, so that was really exciting. But yeah, disappointing not to get the result tonight. We have been playing some really good cricket and unfortunately, we didn't quite get the result we wanted. But lots of positives to take out of it.”
Noteworthy, Delhi Capitals will next take on Rajasthan Royals at the Dubai International Stadium on Wednesday (October 14) in the ongoing IPL 13.
